I'm sitting in a hotel room on my final morning in New Orleans thinking nothing can be better than this. Well, really what I'm thinking is I'm hungry and I'm not good at just sitting so I would really like us to get dressed and go find our final delicious meal in New Orleans, but C is still in that in-between where you're asleep-but-not and really doesn't want to move. Also it's only 6am or so, so I'll let him lay there.
So we have to return to reality, and while things have been good lately, I have eagerly signed up for a new round of the Crappy Day Present exchange. I don't know that I've ever actually blogged about myself for purposes of getting fun things, but hey. I've done three rounds of this and every round have been delightful. My favorite thing about the exchange is giving me an excuse to shop for other people! Something's about me:
- I love coffee, but lately it's been bothering my stomach (although not here in New Orleans, so maybe it's just office coffee, I don't know. I've been drinking a lot of tea at work though, and really getting into it. I love black teas, kinda eh on fruity teas and jasmine tea tastes like bath water.
- In the same vein on drinks, I love wine (we wine themed our wedding, people) and am now starting to get into gin drinks. Please come drink with me. It's fun. I swear I am not an alcoholic.
- I love color, especially jewel tones. I'm not good at mixing and matching colors though so I end up with my brights against a neutral palate. Like yesterday I wore my green capris with a tan and white striped shirt and a bright purple undershirt. I've now comfortable with the pink and orange color mix so I do that A LOT.
- I love all jewelry in theory but I usually wear earrings more than anything. Long, dangly, funky and colorful. Someone needs to teach me how to wear a statement necklace and leave the house with it, seriously. This same person can probably also help me with scarves, I'd assume.
- I read like it's going out of style. Well, maybe it is but not in my circles thankfully. My husband does not read but he spends the same amount of time I spend reading cruising reddit, so we're cool. YA, supernatural, steam punk, hardboiled mysteries, a really good memoir - I'm not terribly picky. In theory I like nonfiction but it's been a long time since I read any nonfiction that wasn't a memoir that I was able to get through.
- my make up ritual centers around making myself look less like death. I have genetic dark circles and bags under my eyes (my mom has them, my oldest son has them. Sorry, spencer!) so my make up is all about making those less noticeable. And my lips have a lot of color but lose it through the day - also deathly, so I have to paint them in. And I'm make up lazy too, so I stick with a product even if I hate it because I don't have any idea how to branch out.
- so basically I really like girly but I'm not at all girly, so it's a little like putting on too-tight spanx. You know they will make you look good but not sure they're worth the hassle.
- I love sweets but I have an issue w refined sugar and no will power to stop once I start so I get a tummy ache. I do not have this problem with gummies. Well, yes on the willpower to stop but they don't hurt my tummy - I could eat them forever. FOREVER.
- I love to cook. Like, love it. Also, I love to eat.
- ice cream is superior to cake, and cake is superior to icing. Fruit flavors over chocolate although fruit flavors WITH chocolate is good too.
- They Might Be Giants is my all-time favorite band. I love music but I am again hesitant to step outside my musical comfort zone of 80s and 90s hits and pop music from the early 2000s.
- I feel this is a silly list, but now I'm just killing time before check out.
