ugh

So everytime I think everything's going good, everything blows up.

We have to buy a house. Only, we can't possibly afford it. We could afford the mortgage no problem, but the closing costs make me want to throw up.

Does anyone have an extra 12k lying around?

Updated

I continue to feel uninspired in posting, but in an effort to keep you non-myspacers updated, here's the scoop: I'm having a boy! Yep, there was definitely a penis on that ultrasound screen. I, who can never tell anything, saw his "twig and berries", as a friend of mine likes to say.

Also, my landlord has decided to non-renew my lease at the end of the year when I'm 8 months pregnant, so we have decided to try to buy, if we can find something we really like in our price range in the next month or so.

And finally, I bought myself a pretty pedicure yesterday. I was complaining weeks ago that my feet look like crap, and I don't like painting my own toenails, so yesterday I stopped at Happy Nail and Spa and got a pedicure. It's mighty pretty, and I feel much better.

So there, I think you're updated. One of these days I'll feel more inspired. On the other hand, I've finally been getting in the mood to write short stories again, so maybe there's just a trade-off. Toodles!

Hello there my fine feathered friends!

Well, if you knew me you'd know that I don't care much for the feathered ones, unless plucked and frozen (except Birdwoman, of course, and my mom's bunny named Feather). But anyhow, I digress.

My health has been much better this week. I actually felt good this morning when I got to work, and considering last week I didn't even get to work, that is saying something. I attribute it to starting a morning regiment of drinking a High Protein Boost (thanks Joy and Ordinary Girl!) and then trying to eat a little bit of protein with every meal. I've had sushi a couple nights this week (only the cooked stuff) and I've been getting an okay amount of sleep.

The only downer this week that I can think of is that I found today that I cannot eat eggs. I made some deviled eggs because I adore them and I thought it would be a good way to get some extra protein, but every egg I've eaten has gone right through me with some pain along the way. So no more eggs. It's a shame, too, because they're were so tasty.

I saw Ben Folds in concert on Tuesday. I went with my ex, his sister and a female friend of his. I thought it would be awkward; I almost talked myself out of going. But I'm really glad I didn't -- I had a great time. It was good to see his sister again; I always missed his family more than I missed him (hehe, shhh, don't tell him that). The concert was great, the company was good, and even though it poured so bad that my quilt weighed 10 lbs when we left, it really didn't put a damper on the night. We left before John Mayer came on -- no one wanted to see him. I was afraid that someone would, and I brought a book and my iPod to entertain me until the end of the concert. Thankfully we didn't stay, and we got to laugh at the people staying in the rain for John Mayer. Ha! :)

Over the river and through the woods

It's been an uneventful weekend thus far. Friday I left my house for 3 1/2 minutes to pick up chicken wings from Winghouse up the street, which I ate quickly and without regret. Yum! :)

Saturday I got to see my best friend from high school. He's in seminary and this summer was taking BAR classes and took that last week, so I got to see him the last weekend he was in town. It was so fun -- whenever he and I get together it's really like nothing has changed in the 10 years since high school. He's such a goofball -- I still can't believe he's going to be a priest. He curses and drinks more than any other Catholic I know -- not necessarily a bad thing in my book, but I wouldn't think that would be the enlightened way ... sure makes him fun though! :)

Other than my outing with Matt, I wandered around with the husband to buy a Wii game -- Wii Play (and he got Tiger Woods Golf because it went down $20) and then we came home and played for most of the evening (I lost terribly but it was great fun) before going out again for Winghouse (this time we ate there). Yes, I love Winghouse. For some reason it always sounds good to me. Which is not to say that I crave it per se, but that it doesn't disgust me in the way that other meat does. I need to hit the grocery store today and get some food -- we're having croissants for breakfast because it's pretty much the only thing in the house. I could make biscuits but I think we're low on milk. I think we're always low on milk.

If you'll excuse me, I'm going to have a glass of Orange Tangerine juice and see if I can ween Christen off the TW golf so that maybe I can play some Zelda before I get my daily headache.

The latest update

If I could get off my couch or bed, I would be thrilled.

Good news on my aunt, she's dong okay. Three months to recover, but okay.

Darling Theresa had a beautiful baby boy on Wednesday. I went to the hospital Wednesday and Thursday. I don't think I'm going to make it today though. He's so beautiful! Cash Joseph Norcross. I'm sure pictures are to come shortly.

I had a horrible dream last night. I woke up hysterical and had to call my mom to make sure my sister was okay. When I woke up again I had a migrane that still hasn't completely gone away.

I hate calling in. I feel like such a failure -- I just couldn't get there today. I wish I could make it up tomorrow, but my company doesn't allow "overtime", which meaning no weekends and no working past 6pm. So I guess I'm just out the day.

So the time I've been awake has been time I've cleaned my living room windows and otherwise warmed the couch watching Lifetime movies and getting choked up -- pregnant women shouldn't watch Lifetime.

Anyone know a good way to get me to eat more protein? I just never have a taste for meat. I'm trying, I just can't do it. As it is I have to force myself to eat, but I am worried that I don't get enough protein. Someone come take me to get chicken wings!

Always something more

My aunt is having open-heart surgery tomorrow to replace her aortic valve. Pray if it's your way, thank you.

I'm going to bed.

Mondays truly suck.

This weekend was pretty great. Saturday we relished in lounging around the house (I even let him watch golf most of the day), we ran a few errands to get ready for the dinner party, like picking up my new dining room table which is my dad's old antique dining room table (it's fantastic!) and getting an oil change.

Sunday was the dinner party, and other than doing that we did nada. Watched golf, I read, a little spot cleaning and voila! Time for company! The menu was as follows:

  • Beer and Cheese fondue with veggies and bread (made by me)

  • Lobster risotto with lobster tails, asparagus and bay scallops in a saffron cream sauce (made by the lovely Richard)

  • Chocolate Peanutbutter Pie (made by me)

The night was a resounding success, full of food and Wii playing and alcohol (for them, not me). Everyone left around 10pm and I hit the hay. Unfortunately for me, baby thought all the food was a little rich, and I had a terrible stomachache that kept me up until after 2am, when I decided to take a hot bath which thankfully relaxed my abdomen enough to let me get a little bit of sleep. I am still not feeling quite up to par, but I still had to get to work, and early at that, so I somehow managed to drag myself in here at 7am. I don't know how it happened, but it did. Blah.

So right now I feel absolutely terrible but I'm toiling through the day the best that I can. I think I'm going to nap on my lunch, which hopefully will make me feel a little better. My allergies are doing a number on me, forcing nose-blowing and bloody noses, but I tried calling Christen to get my Sudafed delivered on his way to work but the cable is out so the phone isn't working at home, and his cell phone is dead (again). I left a somewhat nasty message on his cell phone because I was frustrated, but since he never listens to his messages, it doesn't really matter. I guess I just have to get through the day, right? I think I'm going to call out from the library, because if my sinuses are this bad before I get there, I'll go crazy in the dust reading shelves. I need to go home and sleep. Can I do that right this very minute?

Pregnancy complaint of the week:

My acne is getting out of control! I don't think I've had it this bad my entire life!

Also, I need to force myself to go to bed earlier sometimes. I'm so freaking tired.

Another Monday morning.

What's the song, "just another manic Monday, wish were a Sunday, that's my fun day ..." This morning has actually gone rather quickly despite getting off to a rough start. I was dreaming that I was some sort of MacGyver-type at an old folks' home. Don't ask - I have no idea. But it was an action-packed fun dream, and I woke up exhausted and running late. Then I went to put my cereal in my to-go container and Christen had gotten grease all over it last night after I cleaned it and left it for morning. I'm sure he didn't even notice it, but I was very irritated when I had to clean it again to use it. I somehow got to work only 4 minutes late, well within my 7-minute window, but a little frazzled and irritable.

This weekend was great. I didn't have high hopes because I was sick on Thursday and Friday, but I went to bed early on Friday night because Christen went out with the boys anyhow, and got ridiculous amounts of sleep, waking up refreshed and headache-free Saturday morning. My friend Acie is getting married, so I joined her and her mom and another friend to give opinions on wedding dresses (really, everything she tried on looked beautiful) and then went to Moe's for lunch -- mmm, shell-less Close Talker. Makes me happy. I ran around frantically to get a baby shower gift, and then stopped at home for my cheese platter before going to Theresa's shower. She-who-is-ready-to-pop looked rather well, and we all huddled around playing baby-poo games and giving lots of gifts and kid's books to the mommy. I am very impressed by Theresa's size. Although definitely huge and rightly so, she doesn't look that much bigger to me at 9 months than she did at around 5 months. All the weight has just moved to the tummy region. I had planned on leaving by 6, but had such a good time that I stayed until afte 7 with Tree and another girl (whose name I don't know that I ever got). I met Christen back at home where he had been playing the Wii since getting up and had been nursing a hangover for most of the day, and we went to dinner at Hops (the only one left in the area) where I had some tasty shrimp and he got a burger. We never go there, and wouldn't have except that I had a $10 gift certificate which made the decision for us. The food was decent, the service was funny (she was new and didn't know much, and dropped someone else's plates but she had a good humor about the whole thing).

Sunday I woke up with a headache that I had started getting about halfway through Saturday, so I didn't feel like doing much of anything. I made biscuits but I cut them too thin and ended up with tasty hockey pucks which we buttered and ate anyhow for breakfast, and we spend a good portion of the day playing Wii and beat Paper Mario. Which is good; it needed to go back to Blockbuster. Around 4 we couldn't be stuck in the house anymore, so we hit Walmart for trashbags and Sudafed and then went to Winghouse for an early dinner -- so tasty! Yum! I was at the point by then that nothing sounded good, and that was the only thing that didn't sound terrible, so that was what we went with. My Sudafed kicked in during dinner so my headache finally went away and we saw Transformers. It was a good action flick -- I didn't know what to expect because I didn't want it to ruin my love for Transformers, and I didn't want to go to a mindless action movie. But it was pretty good -- I was entertained, and that's important.

But now it's back to the Monday grindstone!

Sick yet again

It's been less than a week since I was sick, and here I am sick again. This time is different from the first, but no doubt I was not completely up to par from the last sickness to keep me from getting sick again this time. I was feeling out of it all day at work yesterday, but I thought it was because I stayed up too late Wednesday night. It turns out that wasn't it. I went home and napped from 5:30 to about 8:30, and when I woke up I had a fever and my throat was all closed up and I had fluid in my ears. Yuck! Christen brought me home some meds and wonton soup, and this morning I was feeling a little better so I went ahead and came to work. We'll see if that was a good decision. I usually feel better once I've left the house if I can get my butt out of bed.

In other news, I have no other news. I have a busy weekend this weekend, full of opinions on wedding dresses and baby showers (that one I might not participate in if I'm still sick), getting my new table (well, my dad's old table) and Wii golf. Fun! No time for being sick, that's for sure.

8 Crazy Things

I was tagged by Ordinary Girl. I'm fending off work anyhow, so I thought I'd take a moment to do it.

a) Post the rules, then list eight things about yourself.

b) At the end of the post, tag and link to eight other people.

c) Leave a comment at those sites, letting them know they've been tagged, and asking them to come read the post so they know what to do.

1. I adore cooking for other people but I hate cooking for myself. It never tastes as good. I like making complicated foods -- the more steps the better, but I stick to homemade mac & cheese and pb&j sandwiches for myself.

2. I have terrible eczema that manifests itself on my hands when I'm stressed. I've had it under two fingernails on my right hand ever since I got in that fight with my former best friend 2 months ago.

3. I get absolutely freezing during the day if the a/c is under around 76-79 degrees, but I always get hot at night and have to have the fan blowing on me in order to sleep (this also makes Christen sick).

4. I absolutely can't eat sweets in the morning, but I can drink soda. Not that I'm allowed the caffeine anymore, but still ....

5. I'm a closet slob. I make huge messes, but I never want anyone to see that I'm a slob so I'm always cleaning. I also spread out when I'm doing a project to take up all available desk space, no matter what size the project.

6. People think I'm quiet but really I have a slight speech impediment that causes me to repeat words sometimes. I notice it more than my companions.

7. I edit absolutely everything I read, sometimes with a red pen. Whenever I complain about a typo in a newspaper or a book or magazine, Christen asks me if I want a red pen. Even more secret is that sometimes I have to resist the urge to send the edited copy back to the publisher.

8. My favorite board game is Trivial Pursuit, and I have a copy of every trivial pursuit ever made. I'm no good at it, and I lose consistently (when I can get others to play) but I still adore it. I'm secretly petrified of having to get rid of my games to make room for baby, as they're all stored in the spare room right now.

So I'll tag ... anyone on my blogroll -- go!

No I'm not a vampire.

So over the past couple days I seem to have developed an aversion to garlic. This is very upsetting to me, because I adore garlic. It started at work. The downstairs cafe makes these garlic potatoes for breakfast every morning and they smell up the whole 1st floor of the building. I came in yesterday and it reeked so terribly, and then I got in the elevator to come up to the 8th and the stench was in the elevator all the way up. Then last night I was on the way home and I was starving, so I decided to pick up shrimp scampi from Red Lobster and I just couldn't eat it -- the smell was killing me! And those lovely garlic biscuits! Yuck! So I left the rest for Christen to finish when he got home, which he did, and then he kissed me goodnight and I almost threw up. I definitely gagged, and he was offended but what could I do?

This morning I got in my car and it still smelled from the takeout, so I drove all the way to work with my windows down and my air on (hey, it was hot!). How am I going to get through the next 6 months with no garlic? I already miss it ... I stopped at Publix and got gingerale (this is the first time I've needed it since I got pregnant) and fruit. I think I'm not going to test my stomach for the next couple weeks -- no throwing up for me!

In other news, I had a dream my best friend and I reconciled. We were in a house and I kept making her spaghetti noodles with parmesan cheese and we were talking, and I kept telling her our friendship would never be the same. And then I was on the phone with her husband and he was telling me that he was moving back in with her for a month as roommates (not as a couple), and I was so confused. And then I woke up and it was 5:30am. I know why I had the dream -- I was talking to her husband the other day and he said that she was wanting to make up with me. And I talked with Shea yesterday and she said she had a dream that we all went to New York together. But I know it wouldn't happen. For us to be friends again she would have to take the first step and I don't think she cares enough to do that. And I was right in my dream -- our friendship will never be what it was.

Hey! It's my birthday tomorrow!

So today I'm doing nothing. You here that? Nothing. Pthwa -- I spit on fireworks ... :) No, actually we just have no idea what we want to do tonight. Usually we have a party, or we live within walking distance of fireworks, but this time no plans were made, not even with the usual crew.

I'm sure we'll figure something out, and in the meantime, Happy 4th!

And happy 5th to me! :)

Anything out of the ordinary here?

I think I've been AWOL

But I didn't mean it, really. It's hard to remember to post!
This weekend was a weekend for movies. I watched seven: Elizabethtown, My Date With Drew, Dirty Dancing, Music & Lyrics, United 93, Election, and Waiting. Last night was a night of partial movies -- I watched the end of The Lake House, Just My Luck, and the middle of Clueless.
Monday I called off from the library and took my sister to the beach, which was a nice change from the norm. We swam until it was chilly. No manatees this time, but it was fun. I'm trying to get a little done each day so I don't feel like I'm sleeping my life away. Yesterday I did the grocery shopping. Today I made a hair appointment and got my bloodwork done, and it's not even noon! Still in bed by 8:30-9:30pm, but at least I get up early now.

creepy crawly

Today is crawling by. I've been at work since a lovely 7:20 this morning, and my system is still down. Not that I really like to work, but I really don't like being at work and not being able to do anything. I've looked over the few things I can do without my system, played some tetris, read the TBT (god, that's a terribly edited paper), had breakfast and went downstairs for a break (from the monotony, as it was). I've now started on the crossword, which should keep me occupied for another 20 minutes. Blah.

I dug out a couple of wonderful old CDs of mine -- Eve 6 and For Squirrels. Marvelous. Nothing like mid-90s alt-rock. Back when it really was the alternative.

Now will someone give me some work to do, for the sake of the gods and my sanity?

Friday, June 8, 2007

I.

want. to. go. home.

now.

that is all.

oh, and I hate my job.

Just so you know

I hate the taste of vitamins. Detest them. They make me want to gag.

Okay, back to your regularly scheduled program.

Without much fanfare.

So yes, it happens that I am pregnant. I haven't really decided how to feel yet, and I haven't been to the doctor yet (June 12 is my appointment) but I've told my mom and a handful of friends. I know I want kids, but the prospect of actually moving on with my life freaks me out a little. I don't really feel like I'm pregnant, except that I'm exhausted and hungry all the time. But really that's not far off the norm anyhow. Really I think that my real problem is that when dramatic things happen, I never know how to deal with it. I've never been one to get excited by Christmas or birthday gifts (I never know what the proper amount of happiness is), and I don't cry for the normal reasons -- weddings, deaths, etc. So I think I just don't know how to react.

I've told myself that the reason I'm not excited yet is because the miscarriage rate is around 20% and I don't want to get my hopes up. Really, I think it's an excuse. I think the real reason is that I've always been told that you don't tell people before 3 months, and I can't get excited about something I can't tell people about. So I'm 6 weeks, and I'm letting the cat out of the bag slowly, like air out of a balloon, without fanfare. I should be due February 1st. It'd be cool to have a groundhog baby. Maybe I could hold her outside in the morning and find out if it'll be a long winter.

Oh, and if you wonder why I refer to the current parasite as "her" ... we can't agree on any boys names.

5 days.

So I'm 5 days late.

This is the first month that Christen and I decided not to prevent. We aren't trying, per se, but we aren't not trying. I haven't told him yet that I'm late -- I've decided that I would wait until after this weekend (we're going to a friend's wedding) before I get a test. The thing is, if I am -- I'm scared to death. I've always been scared I wouldn't be able to have children, but I'm scared to be pregnant. In my reading there's all these things I shouldn't eat, and things I should and shouldn't do, and ... labor scares the bejezus out of me. My mother's pelvic bones wouldn't shift and she had to have emergency c-sections, and I'm pretty sure I'll have the same issues. My cord was wrapped around my neck and I almost died twice -- who's to say this won't happen to my kid?

Anyhow, I'm only 5 days late. No need to think about these things yet.

Yours?
Ugh. I hate coming back to work after a 3-day weekend. Especially one as nice as this one was. We had a yard sale Saturday and Sunday, and Saturday was very successful. Sunday I read two full books and made $4.50 while Christen did some mulching. Nice. Monday we had a cookout and I made ribs, hamburgers, hot dogs, guacamole, deviled eggs, celery w/ cream cheese, baked mac & cheese (again) and baked beans. It was delightful. I think everyone had a good time -- I know I did. There were about 16 people there, and by the end of the night there were 6 of us playing poker which I lost at but stayed in until the very end. One couple ended up winning so we let them split the pot since they were going home together anyhow. :) It's honeymoon money for them, because they're getting married next weekend.

But I started feeling ill last night, and I had a terrible dream that Christen was leaving me and I woke up sobbing hysterically and could not be consoled even though Christen tried. When I got to work today the first thing I did was check my accrued hours to see if I could afford to leave, but alas that is not the case. Blah.

2. List out your top 5 favorite places to eat at your location. (I have actually picked places from all over the Bay area, because we don't often eat in our town.)

  1. Vallarta's- when I got this survey, the first thing I thought of was Vallarta's! They have the best Mexican ever, and nobody there speaks English. It's awesome. The sangria rocks too - very strong! They have 3 locations in Tampa (family owned chain in Tampa only) and all of them are amazing. Everytime we want Mexican we fret because the closest one is 30 minutes away. But most of the time we make the drive anyhow. If not willing to make the drive, Los Mariachis is in Clearwater (2 locations) and it's damn good too.

  2. Ginzu - I really don't eat off the chains in my area too much (we always make a point of it when out of town, but not so much here; I'm not really sure why not). But sushi is one of those things I can't get enough of, so I'm constantly trying new places. There are great places near me (there's a great one at the corner of Enterprise Blvd and McMullen Booth) but since I can't remember the names of those, I'll recommend Ginzu. This is out by my husband's cousin's house, so she and I go everytime I get out there. It's really just outside Tampa in Lutz, and the rolls are fabulous! They are fairly inexpensive, the food is wonderful and the people there are so nice! Last time I was there I accidently spilled my entire glass of wine down the front of me and they got me a new glass and helped me clean up, and then they harrassed me about it all night! It was hilarious :)

  3. Lin Garden is hands-down the best chinese food in the Bay area. Conveniently located next to the original Vallarta's, when we lived down the street it was a hard decision which of the two we wanted to go to. The food is wonderful - amazing. We don't have anything that stands up to it near us. Try the crab rangoon - the best I've ever had (and I judge chinese restaurants by their crab rangoon).

  4. India Grill - I've eaten a lot of Indian food since I first tried it, but the first place I tried it (with Random_Speak and Co.) will remain near and dear to my heart. Try the Lamb Saag or the Butter Chicken, and don't forget the herb naan! Fantabulous!

  5. Mr. Souvlaki - If you only eat at one Greek restaurant this year, make it Mr. Souvlaki. I can't make a list like this living where I do (5 minutes from Tarpon) without including Greek food. There are a lot of awesome Greek restaurants, but this one is the best of the best. The gyros are great, Christen's favorite entree is the Greek Chow Mein -- so huge it feeds him for 3 days! The greek salads are awesome, but the best thing on the menu is, of course, the Souvlaki. If you eat pork, order it pork. You won't be let down. Also order it with extra Tzatziki sauce - I could suck that down by itself! They've lost a bit of the ambiance since they moved from the docks to the main road, but you can still get a good Opa! when you order the Saganaki (flaming goat cheese), a must for visitors.

3. Tag 5 others. You people, you’re eclectic. Go and be eclectic for me!

I don't like tagging people, but if you're in the mood for a meme, this is great fun!

The devil made me do it, and the devil is cheese.

I pledged to bring baked macaroni & cheese to the potluck at work today. So last night I prepared it without baking it. I put it in the refrigerator with the express intention of baking it this morning before work, so it would still be warm when lunch started.

So when I went to bed last night I set my alarm for 5:20am. I usually set it for 5:50am, but I don't actually get out of bed until 6:30. So I figured that I would get up by 5:45-6, and would have time to bake the mac & cheese before I had to come to work.

What I did not count on was that when I have to get up earlier than usual, I am in a general fog that makes me get up at the buzzer instead of hitting snooze and work on autopilot until I wake up about 20 minutes later. This means that I actually got up at 5:20am, put the mac in the oven and couldn't figure out what I was going to do for the next hour. So I took cat naps while waiting for the casarole to cook, and then got up and got ready for work.

But man, it was worth it.

    Tag!

I've tagged myself in a meme that Jamie did called 5 songs that knock your socks off. Now, first of all it is terribly difficult to pick just 5 songs. So I've decided to pick songs not based on quality (although they are definitely quality) but based on the emotional attachment I have to them.

    1. Walking Man by James Taylor: It's had to pick just one of Taylor's songs because I do love all of them so intensely. I've seen him 3 times in concert and his is the only concert I've actually shed a tear at because it was so beautiful. But Walking Man is my very favorite of all of them. I obsess about that song.

    2. Zak and Sara by Ben Folds:
Often Sara would have spells where she lost time
She saw the future, she heard voices from inside
The kind of voices she would soon learn to deny
Because at home they got her smacked

      Zak and Sara
      Zak and Sara

Zak called his dad about layaway plans
And Sara told the friendly salesman that:
"You'll all die in your cars,
And why's it gotta be dark?
And you're all working in a submarine"

This song is heartbreaking. I love it. Period.

    3. Eleanor Rigby by The Beatles On Christen's and my first date he sang this song to me and I melt everytime I hear it.

    4. Do you Remember by Jack Johnson This song reminds me of everything college. I adore this song.

    5. Bedroom Dancing off the Cruel Intentions soundtrack Now, really I love the whole soundtrack but there's something about this song that makes me crank it up and open the car windows. My favorite lyrics?
And led me to her bedroom.
      And then she did it,
      Stripped me half-naked,
And told me, that her body, was sacred.
She said I could take it,
      If I danced with her,
      But somehow I knew
      That she was an indian-giver.

Do you have 5 songs that really knock your socks off? Let me know!
    I think I've officially matured.

We did yard work all weekend. And I liked it. Our backyard is really coming along! The only thing I hate is putting so much time and effort (and money) and it's not even ours. But we did decide to start looking to buy at the end of the year (when our lease is up). Woohoo!

Now I'm sore and I don't want to work. Blah. :)

What I need to remind myself

If and/or when my best friend ever decides to be a friend again, I need to remind myself of how she's treated me.

    • when she was getting married, I helped her with everything. Whenever she didn't want to do something that needed to be done in order to move forward with the wedding planning, I went over and started it for her so it would be easier for her to handle. However, when I was getting married she never helped and was never there for me.

    • when it was getting close to my wedding and I was stressed already she stopped answering the phone. She stopped calling me back. I would call her 30 times in a week and she would refuse to take my calls.

    • She still hasn't paid me back for my bachelorette party which she said she would split with me. She also was a sullen pain in the ass during the grand majority of it.

    • She decided to take a "trial separation" from her husband the week I got back from my honeymoon. Again, she refused to talk to me and refused to let me be there for her, instead leaning on a "close friend" from that goddamn game.

    • She told her husband that no one cared about her, and that the only person that cared enough to call was my ex-fiance, which is a freaking lie because I was the one who told him about what was going on (only loosely, because it wasn't my place to tell him the details) and I had left messages, texts and MySpace messages for her to no avail.

    • She is consistantly not there for me, refuses to let me be there for her, and martyrs herself whenever possible.

    • She has lied directly to me about the nature of certain "friendships"

So this has been a one-sided friendship for a very long time. And, as I told her the last time I messaged her, I'm going to stop ramming my friendship down her throat. If she doesn't want it, I'm not going to force her. The thing is, before the wedding I really really needed her and she wasn't there for me. Now, I don't need her so much. So even though I do want desperately to be her friend, I think our friendship is dead. She's done this before. Last time she didn't talk to me for over 6 months, then called me to see if I would be her maid of honor. This time I need to remind myself why we aren't together so I can make an informed decision on whether to be her friend again.

You know, I'm a damn good friend. I try to be non-judgemental, I only give advise if requested, if I give advise, requested or not, I rarely get upset if it's not followed because I recognise that your life is not mine. I'm always there for my friends, to the point of getting calls in the middle of the night when they need me to going over after work when I feel like crap just to be there. I hang out at houses with cats (even though I'm severely allergic) to be with them, I clean their house if they need it and don't want to do it. I do anything. But I won't force it anymore. I have enough friends. Friends who are there for me too. And I think I can only do this again if she decides to make our friendship a two-way street, and I don't know if she can be unselfish enough for that.

A conversation with a cute Chickfila guy (the first I've seen)

    CCG: That will be $4.32.
Me: When did the price go up? It used to be $4.11!
CCG: Ahh, it's been about 3-4 weeks.
Me: Oh okay. I haven't had breakfast here in about 6 weeks.
CCG: 6 weeks? How did you stay away that long? (Probably thinking, how the hell do you still remember how much your order is?)
Me: Well, I've had lunch a few times, but not breakfast.
CCG: Ha, that sounds like an admission.
Me: Yeah, I was a bit of an addict.
    Together: giggling.

Okay, so it sounded better in person. But really, when did they get a cute guy and not the weird high school drop-outs?

    Part 2 of the honeymoon!

So it was my intention to update a few times during the honeymoon so that I could properly keep track of everything we did without having to go back and think. Needless to say, that did not happen. Oops! Well, at least I can give a broad overview of what an awesome time we had.

We spent 6 days in Napa and Sonoma (stayed in Santa Rosa). The second day we went to the Petrified Forest where Supercat followed us for the entire walking tour. Also visited the Calistoga Old Faithful and a few really tasty wineries -- Charles Krug, Ehlers Estate (bought a bottle, proceeds go to the cardiovascular institute), Beringer and Flora Springs. The first two were the best, and the others were interesting but I didn't like the wines at all. We had dinner at the Culinary Institute of America's Wine Spectator Graystone Restaurant, which while not being the best meal I've ever eaten, it was a great experience and pretty good food. They sat us in front of the fireplace and we had a bottle of wine -- I had the loin of lamb, and Christen had the flank steak. Both tasty. The best part was the dessert -- some sort of frozen custard with strawberries ... yum! Day three we took Hwy 12 down toward Carneros and hit Chateau St. Jean (fantastic, bought a bottle of reserve Malbec) Ravenswood (also tasty, but did tasting with pretentious wine guy from Chicago who drove us up the wall), Benziger, Sebastiani (the Cherryblock was amazing) and Kenwood (not so much). The best place of the day was Moon Mountain, where we ended up on a private tour of the winery which included the working wine caves (as opposed to historical wine caves like at Beringer) and a barrel tasting of different Cab Franc years (I personally liked the younger one, but I'm not a Cab Franc drinker -- it's too dry for me). It was awesome, and we got a bottle there but I don't remember which one.
We had some time to kill after the last winery, so we decided to drive out to Yountville so I could take pictures of French Laundry for Brad and Jordan (eat there? I don't have that kind of money). We ate at Bouchan which was a block away and was also fabulous.
Day four was rainy and nasty, so we drove down to Fairfield and toured the Jelly Belly factory -- smelled so sugary! After that we went to the Charles Schultz museum (very neat) and ate dinner at a fabulous Indian restaurant in downtown Santa Rosa -- it was likely the best meal of the trip. I had the Lamb Saag and Christen had some Indian venison concoction, and we had a bottle of wine to wash it down. Uh! I wish I was still there!
Day five was still a bit rainy, so we drove north to the Ave of the Giants to see the Giant Redwoods. It was neat, but I can only see so many trees, so I fell asleep while Christen drove out to the coast. How gorgeous! We drove down the coast and stopped on one of the beaches, and I took crazy amounts of pictures!
Day six we left for Yosemite, but first we stopped at Dariouch for a tasting, as I had heard about them from 3WineGuys and I was interested. They were way over the top! Very Persian .... the wine was good, but I think we had better on the Route 12 day, so we headed out to Yosemite.

Our first night in Yosemite we drove through the south part and made it up to the snow -- this is only the second time I've seen snow, and the first time I was able to enjoy it. The only other time was a band trip to Indy in '98 -- how sad is that! We spent 3 nights in Oakhurst, which is right below the south entrance to Yosemite. It was spectacular! We hiked to 3 falls, saw all the Ansel Adams sights, made a snowman (he was 6 inches tall, but still), had snowball fights, saw the Giant Sequoias, and ate fantastically. Sushi two nights, and Ducey's resort restaurant the middle night. We had a cottage at Houndstooth Inn, and it was beautiful -- and huge! Fireplace, Jacuzzi tub, 2-head shower .... I can't say enough about the place. Wine country was wonderful, but that bed and breakfast was amazing.

After Yosemite we headed to Vegas. It was a long drive, but we hit Hoover Dam first, because you have to see Hoover Dam at least once. I've seen it, so I'm good for the next 20 years. :) We stayed at the Stratosphere on the end of the Strip, and they upgraded our room from a regular one to a honeymoon suite for very little more! It was a very nice room, but we hit the rest of the strip for most of the time. I loved all the casinos -- so crazy! We saw Beatles Love by Cirque Du Soliel, which was phenomenal and indescribable ... if you go, spring for the good seats, it definitely made a difference! The second night we saw Spamalot, which was hilarious. In between we saw as much as we could -- Mandalay Bay, Luxor, Excaliber, Paris, the Venetian, NY NY, Belagio, Treasure Island, Wynn, the Mirage, Ceasar's ... I think that's everywhere we went. We actually missed very few on the strip. I didn't get to see anything off the strip, and I have several friends in Vegas that I didn't get to see because I had very limited internet access between Sonoma and the airport, but I guess there's always next time! I had a blast!
Anyhow, I'm sure there's more, and I'll definitely post pictures but for now, ta ta!

Quick wedding update and part 1 of the honeymoon!

    Heya!

So I'm finally an old married woman. It's weird; I don't feel married. I feel good, but being married makes me feel so old!
The wedding was beautiful. I have a few pictures that were emailed to me that I'm going to put up on my MySpace for now, but I'll put up the real thing when I finally get home … I really wasn't nervous until my flowers didn't show up until 1:30 and I freaked out, but then they finally got there and I was able to get dressed and walk down that aisle! I started shaking when I took Dad's arm, and I kept tripping over my slip but we managed to get through it and it was fantastic! The reception was great -- so much fun, and I got to see everybody and dance … I don't feel it was long enough -- I could have done that all night, if it wasn't for my 4-inch heels! I was in pain by the end of the night, but thankfully Shea and Kyle followed us to the hotel and brought our luggage (although after the hasty exit from the church I was missing several key items, like my bra and razor!)
We left for the airport at 3:30am, but our flight was delayed until after 6am. That put us an hour behind, and we missed our connecting flight in ..:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Charlotte by more than 20 minutes. Thankfully, a manager squeezed us on the 9:20am flight to San Francisco on stand-by, but it was a good thing that nothing happened because they never took our names so we weren't on the manifesto. Alas, our luggage did not follow us.
San Francisco was neat but very cold. It was a high of the early 60s, and all our warm clothing was in my bag, which continued to be lost. Christen's came in the middle of the night Monday, but mine didn't show. We walked through Chinatown and Union Square, and ate dinner at the Stinking Rose -- I totally wanted to order the "Silence of the Lamb Shank with fava beans", especially since we were drinking a bottle of the house Chianti, but I just couldn't fit it in so I stuck with these amazing roasted mussels and a salad. Christen got the garlic meatloaf with garlic mashed potatoes and Swiss chard (I could have eaten all that Swiss chard on top of my meal -- fantastic!)
We stuck around in San Francisco for another day Tuesday waiting for my bag to show up. We hit Haight Ashbury, Coit Tower, Golden Gate Park (ahh, the tulips were gorgeous). Finally after coaxing and a bit of hysteria, my bag was found at the airport and we dropped by to get it before jetting up to Santa Rosa just before dark to check in. Dinner was at Outback because our desk clerk was less than helpful about finding a good place to eat and we didn't know the area, but it was still pretty tasty.
Day one in Santa Rosa was awesome. Just awesome. We started out at the Kendell-Jackson vineyard, but they didn't open until 10, so we found a diner for breakfast and drove around through the mountains and vineyards until open. KJ was great, and the wines were delish -- we had the reserve list, which are very limited and only available through the vineyard. Our wine pourer was very nice and pointed us to a few other vineyards.
Next stop was the Delouch vineyard. The wines there were wonderful (we bought a bottle) and the pourer was also very interesting. We then hit a sushi place called Sake-o in Healdsburg and it was wonderful -- I had a Mt. Fuji roll (smoked salmon, cucumbers and scallops) and a spider roll, and Christen had chicken teriyaki. After sustenance we hit Simi winery where we had a very interesting tour (though neither of us cared much for the wines) and wound our way through the countryside stopping at Robert Strong winery for a taste before hitting Kohl's for some new bras and socks (thank god!) and grabbing a burger at In & Out.
Anywho, off to bed (Christen's been asleep for about 2 hours). Up tomorrow: Old Faithful, more wine and maybe dinner at the Culinary Institute of America's Wine Spectator Graystone Restaurant. More to come!

    Gettin' hitched on Sunday!

The last few days have been a little crazy, so I'm just going to say: I probably won't be around at all for the next two weeks. After all, I'm getting married!

Yesterday was the last of the running around like a chicken with my head cut off (excuse the tired cliche, I have no time to think up good ones). There was the tuxes and getting the groomscake and manicures and showing up late to my own rehearsal ... but everything turned out alright, and we had the rehearsal and the rehearsal dinner last night, which means today should be a little less stressful. I simply have to finish picking up the house, finish packing, get my pedicure (the girls will be here at 8:30) a print and assemble 80 programs for the wedding. No sweat, right?

So I'll leave you with our engagement photo, and I'll be back mid-honeymoon for a quickie (update, I mean!) Toodles until then!!

    Shades of melancholy

So now for a real post. Sort of.

I miss my writing. Dear friend Autumn got fantastic news that she will be the new EIC of Inkwell Journal. I've been perusing the photography and poetry of friend Brian and was awestruck by the beauty. I spent the day at work listening to Craig's stylings. And of all this, it hits me that it has been quite awhile since I've written anything of substance. I think often of writing; first lines meander through my mind while I'm cleaning or cooking or driving. I don't have the determination to continue through to the end. Perhaps after the wedding I will pick it back up. I do miss it so.

    Woohoo! I'm out of work!

    Monday, April 9, 2007

What's with today, today (my favorite movie from which to quote)

    Today.
Today I've been working as if today was my last day.
That is to say, I'm either working like crazy or not at all. Your choice.

No, really I'm working like crazy because I'm trying to make sure that everything is done, so tomorrow, my real last day, I'm not hyperventilating from the amount of work I haven't done. I'm actually in very good shape, so there shouldn't be an issue. And now that I've said that, all shit shall hit the fan, yes?

But I'm taking a minute to blog, because I really don't know how much time I'll have over the next week to do so.

Friday night I decided to take the night off from worrying about wedding stuff, since things had been so intense throughout the week that I couldn't see straight. I spent an hour at Wilson's purusing books (I bought two: Vanity Fair, because I always like to pick up a book that I feel I should have read but haven't, which is not to say I will, and The Last Madam, about the underground brothels of New Orleans ... looks like a good read). I spent an hour at Theresa's, admiring her belly and talking wedding and baby nonsense while the puppies took turns fighting over my lap and giving me kisses that I semi-successfully fended off. I spent an hour on L's couch while she got ready to go out, admired the ivory fishnets w/ braided seams she was sporting (I could never get away with such things) and then we were off to downtown St. Pete for my last romp as a single woman. We met up with a lovely set of people, dined on Indian cuisine (I had never had before, but it was glorious), and drank at Indy, the Globe (Geri X was fantastic), Indy, Indy and Indy. Did I mention we hung out at Indy? After L and sis took off, Craig and I had a final drink and people-watching moment at The Lobby before he dropped me at my car and I meandered home in the wee hours of the morning.

Saturday we ran final wedding errands which included purchasing $65 of fake grapes and a can of spray adhesive ... not something you buy every day, right? My sister spent the night and we had the requisite few hours of drama before settling in, and subsequently missing sunrise service with the fam. Jamie and I caught up with them after breakfast, went grave hopping and back to Christen's nana's house for lunch and hours and hours of poker. I love poker days. We made a bit of money, though I don't know how much -- about $15-$20 maybe? And when bets are 10 cents to a quarter, that's a good day!

    Not soon enough

10 more days to go until I am a happily married woman. I can't wait -- I'm so sick of prep work! This week has been hard, at work and afterward, because I've been working off a list to get everything done for the wedding so I don't have to worry. Work is crazy stressful because everything that comes in has to be worked pronto because Tuesday is my last day of work. Tonight I went over my mom's to get my hair dyed and she wasn't home so I crawled up in my brother's bed and took a nap while he played video games. I should be going to bed early, but I know it's not going to happen. Next week should be better because I'm spending all my time this week getting things together so I shouldn't have too much to do then.

Maybe I'll blog later when I'm not so beat.

How much drink could a woodchuck drink?

What a weekend! This weekend was my bachelorette party, and I had a fabulous time! Stacy, Shea and I met up at the Hyatt downtown where we had a beautiful room, and they adorned it with all sorts of crazy decorations. Then we met up with a bunch of people down at Spain, a tapas restaurant about a block from the hotel. It was amazing! There was flamenco dancing and tons of tapas to be had by all -- their goat cheese was the best I've ever tasted! Afterward we went back to the hotel for drinks and so they could adorn me with silly bachelorette-wear -- a tiara, veil, spinner button, a couple shot glasses and a sash (I disappointed them by cutting down to one shot glass and no sash, but it covered my cleavage! I couldn't have that!) and we headed down to Channelside. Mucho drinks, mucho fun! I drank far too much, but not so much that I was puking, so we were good! I'm certain that there are interesting pictures out there, but I've only seen one of them, which I'll have to post later. Shea, Shelley and I retired to the hotel room to read raunchy romance novels until we fell asleep, and then Sunday morning Shea and I laid out by the pool for a bit before heading home.

The boys had a crazy time too, I'm told, but likely not as fun -- they were nearly still passed out from partying when we got home around noon on Sunday, and Christen slept on and off all day while I helped my sister on a class project and fiddled around with wedding prep. Toodles!

    See it to believe it

I have a favorite stripclub -- Personalities, it's called, like people really care about their personalities. It's not my favorite because I've ever been there. Alas, I've only been to one strip club in my life -- more than a year ago I drunkenly stumbled into Mons Venus with some friends.

No, Personalities is my favorite for a different reason: the signs. These people put up the funny signs. Like the bicycle graveyard on Fletcher. Weird, funny signs. Once a week they change the sign. I know I've talked about this before.

But today there's another sign: Mediocre people are at there best. "there" best?

Is it a typo? A clever joke? More likely, sadly, just stupidity.

    Monday, March 26, 2007

I love San Francisco and I'm not even there yet!

I made reservations at The Stinking Rose for our first night and I MADE THEM ONLINE.

God, I'm looking forward to this trip.

"Do you know how big the crack is?"

... innocent question overheard many times at my job.

I'm excited for a variety of reasons. a) The Gators are in the Final 4. Say what you like about basketball and the Gators, but they've been my team for always except six months in 9th grade when I was dating FSU fan Mark Nelson. But then we broke up and I went back to my first love -- UF. And the Gators are the only team that will drag me into watching my most loathed "game" -- basketball. I detest basketball. But I'll watch it for my boys.

Reason for excitement b) I only have 11 more days of work before I get my vacation for my wedding. Hurrah! I need to set up appointments for mani/pedi (Shell, same place as usual? I need to see Leeney) and mostly I need to relax. God, I need this vacation. Everyone should get married just to get 2 1/2 weeks off work. What? Is that not reason enough?

Reason for excitement c) My bachelorette party is starting to come together -- yay for free (hopefully) drinks! We've got a hotel room for all the girls at the Hyatt Regency, and we're going to go to Spain for tapas (I know, seems like a ways to drive, right? But no, it's only a block from the hotel) and take the trolley to Channelside so that we may get sloshed without having to worry about having a DD. God love the trolley system. We have the worst public transportation system in the entire US, but trolleys to drinking areas? We've got 'em! I'm hoping not to be embarrassed to thoroughly, but with this group who knows. As long as I'm drinking, god help us! Who's bringing the camera? :) If you're in the area, come join us at Channelside! Buy me a drink!

Reason for excitement d) I finally got new earbuds for my iPod that are so extremely comfortable that I could be listening to my iPod for the next year. Awesome. In case anybody is wondering, they're these:

which they make in metal too, but it wasn't worth it for another $20. I lost my last pair, and I tried to get a cheap pair but they hurt my ears so I went back to these -- the best $30 EVAR.

Reason for excitement e) I finally found something on iTunes worth using my iTunes gift card that Shell gave me almost a year ago -- I bought Hello Radio: Various Artists play TMBG. Just so you know, don't go out and get it. But I'm glad I used my gift card on it, because I really wanted to hear it, and now I'm not so upset that it sucks. Because it's not real money anyhow, and all that.

    demented mouthpiece

So a couple weeks ago I bought a mouth guard. It cost $18.99 and entailed boiling in water, shaping to my teeth and submerging in ice water. A real ordeal, I'm telling you. The reason I bought such a thing is because I grind my teeth while I sleep. It keeps Christen awake, and I'm pretty sure it is the source of my migraines. TMJ disorders beware!

The first night I woke up early and it was still in my mouth. The second night I woke up and found it underneath me. Since then I've found it back on my nightstand, between pillows, under me, under Christen, and tangled in the sheets at the end of the bed. The good news? I haven't been grinding my teeth. The bad? I'm having anxiety over losing this damn mouth guard in the middle of the night, it falling on the ground and Lola having a new chew toy. I wish I could silly putty it to my teeth so it would stay in my mouth. It's really tight -- I have to actually be pushing it out in the middle of the night. Or it's getting up and running away, which I wouldn't put past it.

Very short on the very long

Here's the skinny on the friend, per True's request.

We've talked, and it's better. Not perfect, but better. She just needed time away from everything, and decided to ignore her phone for a week. But since I'm conditioned to believe that when people don't call me back (especially her) that they're mad at me, I obviously thought that she was mad at me. And since I thought that she was mad, I didn't go over to see her, so it just got worse. But finally Wednesday we got in touch and had a long talk, and then went for some lovely sushi. Friday night I called her on the drive down to St. Pete, and shot the dung for a bit.

Hopefully it'll all last. I hate losing friends.
"You've got to hydrate it a little. Just hold it in your mouth and let it moisten up a little"

-- Christen to me after I cooked my turkey bacon to pork rind status

My mom bought chocolate double stuff Oreos and sent me home with some to dip into my fat free organic milk. Yum :)

I'm incredibly exhausted tonight. The library officially broke me. We spent all evening moving large-print books so that the movies can be at the front. I got two new bookcases on Sunday and I can't bear the thought of having to move my books. Those bookcases are going to sit in the foyer for a bit while I think about it. In the meantime, they talked me into coming in again tomorrow to move more books. Hehe ...

Sunday we went to see Zodiac. I actually liked it, although most people I know didn't. No special effects. Crap, right?

    The divine and the bored.

Recovering from a weekend that was half delicious and half lazy and boring is a bit of a challenge. Do you rest from the crazy fun night you had Friday night? Or do you get out and do something to combat the lay-in-bed-and-watch tv night you had Saturday? I haven't decided which needs to be done, but I suspect some laundry washing is in store.

Friday night I went out with L and had a marvelous time. We went to dinner at Ceviche -- I had the mussels and the baked goat cheese, and I snacked on everyone else's tapas as well -- there were mushrooms, salmon, artichokes (which I've never liked before, but they were wonderful), and an amazing duck in chocolate sauce. The sangria was a little weak but tasty, and since we were moving on to more alcohol that was definitely fine.

Afterward we hit the Independent, which was very enjoyable, but probably would have been more fun if there were slightly less people. It happened to be First Friday, which always brings out the less regulars, and since the bar is between Central and 1st, people tend to migrate. I drank Ococim and whatever Bill poured in my glass between beers ... the people watching was great. Bill and I drooled over barely legal frat boys, watched two girls make a show of making out on the sidewalk, there was a boy-fight, I fell once, L fell at least once, and I met lots of yummy people whose names elude me.

Saturday was more of a recovery day, I suppose. I slept in, which never happens (about 9:30), and we did very little all day. We registered for china at Macy's and wandered around Westshore mall for a bit, had Evo's for lunch (mmm, garden grill) and then came home. I climbed into bed around 6pm because I was exhausted, but didn't sleep and instead watched more than my share of DIY shows and Law & Order (most definitely not a DIY show -- that would just be weird).

Tuesday, and it's already a bad week.

My best friend has been not talking to me for over a week. It possibly has been longer than that, because I haven't seen her in more than a month. She keeps having excuses as to why we can't hang out. Then last week all went to hell. I've called and texted her approximately 30 times (not an exaggeration) with no response. I'm 6 weeks out from my wedding and she's refusing to talk to me. I've never been so lonely as I have been this last week. I don't know what to do at this point. I cry all the time, at my cube, in the bathroom, at home, in the car, at my mom's house ... It never ends.

Then yesterday Christen's best friend lost his job.

    Selfish you

You never are a person I can lean on. You're so preoccupied with your own problems. Is it selfish of me to wish that you'd care about me? That you'd answer my phone calls, or call me back? I'm not asking you to do anything. I'm just asking for you to listen. I'm sick of listening.

    Yay for prez day!

I'm so happy to have a 3-day weekend. You don't even understand. The regular weekend went by pretty quickly. Saturday we ran errands and tried to help my mom replace her sliding glass door. No good. We also went to get our sample cake, which turned out okay after only a mild breakdown by yours truly. Sunday we spent most of the day at home, cleaning and addressing invitations.

Today I have a very busy day planned. Taxes, hair dye, dinner with the almost-hubby, and more invitation addressing. Sounds delightful!

    Happy Valentine's Day!

Christen's working tonight so I'm having dinner with my mom and siblings. I hope you have someone to share the day with that you love, no matter in what capacity!

    News

Don't you hate when you pinkie swear you won't tell on news that you found out and then once you found out you really want to tell people? Especially when you planned on telling people before, but you didn't plan on getting pinkie-sweared into not telling.

    Arg.
    Dear you,

I miss your friendship. I know I shouldn't, it's been a long time. But somehow I keep getting sucked in to wondering what it would be like to still be friends. We were, once. After love was dead and before spite got in the way. I wonder now if we'd even like each other if we hung out again -- we've both changed so much. I've realized that I like being girlie and professional and I've dropped the little kid act. You ... well, I don't know you anymore. You spend your time with people I don't know (and likewise) and have interests that I don't know. I've found my own interests and realized that I don't enjoy most of what you did.

Still, I find myself dreaming about you. You babysitting my kids, us hanging out and being silly, you finding the one of your dreams. I want that for you the way I found it for me. And maybe then it would be easier to call you and say, "What are you doing tuesday? I need a friend."

    Truly,
    me.
The fates are alligned in a plot to keep me from getting to work on time.

    That's all I'm saying.

    37 cents.

We had such a terrible dinner last night. We were all out in Orlando- Shea, Kyle, Christen and I, and wanted to go to our very favorite restaurant out there -- Jungle Jim's. They have fantastic burgers, and not ones that we can get out here, so we always make the effort to go there. So we get there around 6:30 and THEY'RE CLOSED. No note on the door, no "We've moved our location", just gone. So we drove out to the Church St. Station location, which I haven't been to in 6-7 years, and we couldn't find them either. So back to Crossroads, and we ended up eating at Buffalo Wild Wings, and the food was terrible, the service was horrible, and the manager didn't give a rat's ass. All around bad, bad experience. Although none of ever leave bad tips, we snuck out with only leaving a 37-cent tip because we were all just so mad. I've never done that -- usually I will just round my dollars down instead of up if I'm unsatisfied. This time -- well, I'm never going back there anyhow. Not to the one here either, actually. Other April said she's never had a bad experience there but I'm not chancing it. If you work for BWW, please don't try to bribe me with coupons -- I don't even want them.

Other than that, though, it was a pretty decent weekend. As I mentioned, I was drunk on Friday night. Actually, I went to happy hour at Bar Louie, and although I really wasn't that tipsy while leaving, I opted to get a ride home anyhow, and by the end of the ride I felt trashed so it was a good thing I got a ride. It was way fun, and I was so glad I went.

    Other highlights:

-- Went to dinner Saturday night with Christen's parents and my dad. Leaving, I was talking to my dad and he goes, "I've never noticed how green your eyes are", and I said, well, I'm wearing contacts ... and he was aghast that he didn't even notice! :) It was very funny. I'm not wearing colored contacts, but my eyes are a dark hazel so they range from more brown to more green.

-- Went to the outlet mall in Orlando w/ the crew on Sunday. Fun, and I got two shirts for very cheap. Downtown Disney yielded a bath bomb (incentive for me to clean the bathtub) and almond soap. We also stopped in to Ragland Road for a beer and appetizer which was very cute, but next time we'll opt for the outside "Hole in the Wall" bar. It seems to have a bit more character. There is a Guiness Hat picture floating hereabouts of Shea and I. We also played minigolf, and I came in last. Great fun!

Work now, but it hasn't been too bad. I'm looking forward to the three-day weekend! 1/2 day down, 4 1/2 left!

    Better

So last week was bad. Like, bad, bad. Bad. By Friday night my face hurt from frowning and I was falling asleep on Nana's couch during cake and ice cream for her 82nd birthday. Everything came to a head: work sucked, wedding things weren't getting done, Christen was going to start working nights, stress was falling out my ears.

So this week I've decided to make an about face and stop worrying. As for work, I can only do what I can do. Other than that, I'm done worrying about it. As for the wedding, since Christen is working nights anyhow, I can start working on everything on my own and not have to worry about what's not getting done. If I do it myself, I don't have to think about it so much. Tonight I'm going to stop at JoAnn's and get things for favors and see what I can figure out on that front. I haven't really decided what I want to do, which makes things difficult. I've been skimming through Frommers.com and tripadvisor.com to find hotels in our price range that are nice so I can make reservations pronto. Does anyone know of hotels in San Francisco, the vineyards, Yosemite and Vegas that are nice and stay around $100/night? I don't need a lot of amenities, just clean and cute work for me. And for the longest stretch, in the vineyards, clean is my biggest thing. We plan on staying in San Fran for 1 night, Sonoma or Napa for 7 nights, Yosemite for 2 nights and Vegas for 2 nights.

The weekend was good but busy. Saturday I worked at the library in the morning to make up for my Mondays that I've been taking off, and then I had a cake tasting. I really liked the chef and the cake but he was so busy. We ordered a sample cake to see if what we want will work out, and we'll have to decide on that later. I'm not too concerned, because at least we've started on it. The afternoon was dedicated to taking my mom up to Spring Hill to get a bike. That worked out well, but it seems there is an issue with the battery that now needs to be resolved. Because nothing's ever easy, right? That night we went over to Charlie & Katie's new place (a wonderful 3 block walk) and brought Lola to mingle with their dog Holly. That was a trip -- Holly kept running from Lola with her tail between her legs.

Sunday I made guacamole and we ordered wings for the superbowl. S&K and S&R came over, and we had a great time. I'd venture to say that it was one of the best time that I've had with the six of us. We had a fire in the pit behind the house and Shell and Rich stayed until very late having s'mores and listening vaguely to the end of the game. And it was a great game! I have to say, I didn't really care who won, but I love turnovers. They're so exciting! And I was technically rooting for the Colts (Kyle was the only pro-Bears rooter of the day) so things went well.

    Respondent

We spoke in whispers of poetry
    Stolen lines of script
    Glimpses of melody
    Traces of memories.

Notes from the past are now buried
    Between old pages
    Lost like old friends
Pulled out for a sweet smile

    Happiness forgotten in the shadows
    Of a bitter voice
Once there was joy and hope, but
You gave up and I moved on.

These are the keys to doors that no longer open
Drafts of feelings no longer felt
Hope for lives no longer joined
    Poems of moments since forgotten

    Once we spoke in poetry
But I’ve stopped believing in it
Stuck to writing the stories of my life
And I’m coming up for Air.

    Like a whole new ring

Yesterday was a bad day. That's all there is to it. I called out at the library in favor of lounging on the couch and being waited on by Christen and catching up on shows from last week. There were, however, highlights:

I paid for our invitations, and those should come in 7-10 days from now (hurrah!). This is what they look like.

And I stopped at Jared's to see if I could get my mom's ring fixed, as it was missing a baguette. My mom gave me this ring a couple years ago, and it was the first ring she ever bought herself. It's not generally in my style (it's gold where I prefer silver, it's a baguette setting and I stay away from those), but I love it dearly. Since I got the ring, it's been missing a stone and I've been too lazy to get it fixed. It was also filthy from 20-odd years of never being cleaned. So I took it in the get it fixed, and the lady seriously cleaned it. Like 5 minutes in the steamer cleaned it. And guess what! There weren't any missing stones -- the ring was just so dirty that you couldn't see the one stone anymore. So she cleaned it and polished it and now it's like I have a whole new ring. Mom says it probably looks like when she bought it :) That makes me super happy.

The last gift for my bridesmaids came in. I can't say what it is, because they read this too, but they look so cool! I ordered one for myself too, and it has my soon-to-be name on it, so I brought it to work and put it on my desk so I don't feel the urge to show it off to my girls ... now, I just need to get them spelled right and we'll be good. They spelled mine and Autumn's correctly, but misspelled Shea's and Shelley's names so I have to send them back and get them redone. Thankfully, there's plenty of time for that. Yay for getting stuff for people!

I also started looking for something to get the parents. I found these sappy sweet framed poems that you put a wedding picture in that is a definite possibility. Parents like that sort of thing :) I need to make a list of everything I need to finish so that I can get it done -- my goal had been to finish getting everything done this week, but that's obviously not going to be the case so maybe by next week? Hmmm ... if I don't go nuts by then, we'll see. :)

    Toodles!

    Rains down in Africa

It's a shame that GTA Vice City has completely killed my love for Toto. It's still on my iPod, and everytime I hit that song in the shuffle, I can't hit the forward button fast enough. I walk into the library and Christen is listening to it on the computer (yes, he puts it on repeat). I walk into the living room and he's driving the car in GTA listening to that same station .... I just want to reach out and wring Toto's collective neck!

In other news, I am adjusting to life without glasses, slowly. It takes me less time to put them in, and Saturday I forced Christen to take me to the flea market to get a very hot pair of designer knock-offs. Everybody has good things to say about my lack-of-glasses, which worries me about how I looked with glasses, because I do still prefer them. I need to get new lenses because my prescription has gone up, so I'm stuck in contacts for at least the next two weeks, but I would ultimately like to go back to glasses full time and contacts only part time.

We finally picked out our invitations this weekend. They are very nice and way sophisticated -- and a tad expensive, but not as expensive as if we had gone to Crane or such. We stuck with Party City, because among the cheesy castle and roses invites they had a number of classy cards ... and they were 30% off, which made them much more affordable. Once they come in I'll probably post a picture so you can see what great taste we have. Ha!

Also drove down to Ellenton to putz around the outlet mall for a few hours. I got a couple pairs of jeans (the whole reason for going down there -- for some reason I fit the weird sizes better than standard), a pair of jean capris and two blouses. Christen came away with two tee-shirts, two pairs of jeans and a wool peacoat. He's wanted one of those damn coats for months, and I don't like them on men. But he could not be persuaded to stick with his leather jacket, so I am now the proud owner of a man with a wool peacoat. Hmmm.

Dinner was at Red Lobster last night as we had a gift certificate from Christmas still, and it was very tasty. Somehow we were there for almost 2 hours, but still it was tasty. I had shrimp scampi and coconut shrimp. Ahh, shrimp. Tasty little buggers, they are. And leftovers for tonight -- hurrah!

    One drink or two?

I got contacts yesterday. Which is not to say I won't generally still be wearing my glasses, because I will. I love my glasses. I think I look good in my glasses. Boys like my glasses ...

But I wanted contacts for the wedding, and I figured if I got them now I could wear them a little bit and get used to them beforehand. They were a kick at work -- everyone loved them. :) Tonight, happy hour.

    Knot my fault

My back is killing me (literally, slowly). Last night I worked at the library organizing the stacks of newspaper (they keep 2 months of back issues of 4 major newspapers) and for three hours I was stooped over a table fixing them and now I have a knot right in the middle of my back (right where I can't get to it myself). It's quite frustrating, really. I've been hunched today to keep it from throbbing, but when I get up I have to put my shoes on and the heels aren't helping. Thank god for my purple socks:

    (note: not my socks).

I made a fresh pesto sauce last night and mixed it with penne pasta and shrimp -- it was tasty. I brought the leftover pasta for lunch today. There weren't many shrimp left (they were the extras from Sunday's dinner) so we gobbled them up last night. I could seriously eat shrimp everyday and be blissfully happy.

    Orgasmic

This is the best bottle of wine I have ever had in my life. Slightly sweet with berry and heat, dry finish, with hints of mocha and coffee -- seriously, I gushed over this bottle the whole night. Served with bacon-wrapped shrimp, asparagus and green beans, and white rice. Because I drink red wine with anything I possibly can. So amazing. Go buy a bottle. Now.

    Ahhh, shopping

Took the man-child and the evil sister shopping today, him to the used bookstore and her to get a dress for her 8th grade dance. That's all I've got. Tonight's for relaxing.

(note: not my dog. Cute though, even if it is a spaniel.)

    Friday, January 19, 2007

I wish I could make the same sound the dog makes ...

... when she lays down to sleep. It's sort of a sigh through the nose. She keeps alternating between passed out and chewing on her leg. That I don't care to do. Christen is asleep in the chair, though I don't think he knows he's asleep yet.

I was in a terrible mood today. I had a dream that the wedding was a mess, and then I got a text from my MOH that she wasn't able to come to the dress fitting this weekend, and I just got into this funk that was hard to break. Luckily, there was plenty of wine here and Charlie and Katie met us for wings at Winghouse, so I was nice and loose and fun by the time they got here. My legs are still a little tingly, but I might just sleep that off.

Wrap me in designer sheets ...

I boned up on my sleep, and not in the dirty way. I've been going to sleep between 9:30 and 10:30 every night, and it has rocked! Except that yesterday I had a reeling headache and moped about the house eating frozen pizza and mac & cheese (Annie's organics, so at least I was trying to be a good girl) and doing laundry and cleaning. When my head wasn't throbbing, at least. Thankfully, the house is cleaned and my head has finally stopped doing the polka behind my eyes. La de dah ....

    Monday, January 15, 2007

    On the menu.

What I should have done this weekend was relax. Of course, I don't often relax, and as such I've come back to work just as tired as I left. At least I had a good time, right?

On the way home Friday I decided that Christen and I needed a nice night at home. I stopped at Total Wine to get a couple bottles; I stopped at the grocery to get a nice steak and asparagus and fresh bread. We had steak, asparagus w/ hollandaise sauce, and bread with Italian dipping seasonings. It was fantastic, if I do say so myself. We had a nice zinfandel with it, and a Bordeaux for afterward, and sat out by the fire pit and reminiscenced about our camping trips and talked about what we wanted from the honeymoon. Such a nice night.

Saturday we didn't do much of anything during the day -- hung around the house and did a little shopping. Really I felt icky and kept taking it out on him -- I know, I know. I tried to stop but sometimes the word vomit just gets the best of me. So we went home and took showers and tried again. We met Acie and Tom for dinner and met a couple of their friends, and then went minigolfing with them. A much better end to the day, for sure. Christen won (he was only 1 above par) and I came in second. Love it! It was a grand time.

Sunday we went to Stacy's for a BBQ, and took Lola. She wasn't very polite and kept starting fights with Stacy's beau's dog, but they mostly had fun. We had a blast, and the food was excellent. Afterward I greatly wanted to go home and go to sleep, but for some reason I was up until midnight. Lola had the right idea; she plopped down on the living room floor as soon as we got home and was still there sleeping when we went to bed.

All in all, a great weekend, but one of these days I swear I'm going to get to sleep. I evidently am incapable of sleeping in, so maybe I'll try to go to bed early? Shocker :)

    Running for nothing

Someone needs to tell Molly's owner that it is not in good etiquette to leave the double gates open at the dog park when yours is not the last dog leaving. Dumb bitch (the owner, not the dog). Last night I took Lola and Jazzy (mom's dog) and my brother to the dog park for a little while. Because of traffic we got there with only about 20 minutes until closing, but at least they could run around a little bit until we had to drag them back home. There were about 4 dogs still there, but they left very shortly after we got there. The last dog to leave was Molly, an older water spaniel (I think). We hung around for about 10 more minutes and then walked up to the gate where the dogs pushed right through and took off! Jazz was pretty easy to catch - he's fat and slow and obedient. Lola likes to run. It took me about 20 minutes of running to catch her, and then it wasn't even me that caught her. The maintenance dude caught up with her in his cart.

The silver lining? She took a monster dump in the people's side of the park, and since I was trying to catch her at the time I didn't have to clean it up :)

    random meanderings

One of these days I'm going to wake up and actually want to get up to go to work. Not that it's going to happen any time soon, but maybe someday. It's not work, it's just the getting out of bed that's the problem. I don't have any problem getting up on the weekend (although this past weekend I slept in more than usual) but during the week it seems impossible. I was having a dream that I was giving birth with a bunch of other women who were also pregnant (read, though: I am not pregnant) and it was very surreal -- it didn't hurt at all, but I was trying to go to the bathroom first so I wouldn't have an "accident" while giving birth and then the arms just popped out and the nurse yanked the kid out of me by the arms and I just felt empty.

Friend Charlie from high school and his fiancée bought a house in my neighborhood - two streets over! I'm so excited to have friends so close! Not that it meant anything when I lived in Temple Terrace, since my friends in that neighborhood still never called or came over unless I made the effort. These friends are a little more extraverted though, so maybe we'll have better luck. I'm still hoping that my new neighbors are cool -- I never see them, and I'm not so good at initiating conversation when it involves knocking on the door and introducing myself. I was sort of hoping to see them outside so I could stop by. Charlie and Katie came over this weekend and celebrated their buy, and they might be coming over tonight to watch the BSC game -- Go Gators!

If I were Lola, I would be furious with me. We went to the dog park on Saturday and she played with all the other dogs. There was this other dog that looked exactly like Lola except she had very short hair all over, including her tail. It looked so good! So Christen and I decided to cut her hair, including her tail. I told Christen I felt like Delilah cutting off Samson's hair. It looks so bad! I'm getting used to it now, but I felt so bad for her when we first did it. Her tail was so cute! We were just getting so tired of the tumbleweeds of hair rolling across the wood floor all the time, so we thought if she had less hair then we would have less hair. Luckily, she doesn't seem to notice. That was not the case when she shaved her butt- she wouldn't walk with her back to us for 2 days. :) I hope it grows out soon enough.

More proof of my stupidity ... and Happy New Year!

So I've told you about my stupidity regarding the lost shoes (and no, VG, they weren't even my Steve Maddens, they were my stupid little black leather flip flops with the big flower on the front), so now let me tell you about my car.

This morning I was having a terrible and weird dream where Christen coached a softball team, and kept making us move because he hated stains and bugs and whenever he saw one he would make us pack up the team and move somewhere else. So I was had trouble getting out of bed because I was oddly intrigued by what would happen next (okay, who am I kidding; I hate getting out of bed anyhow for work). So I had only about 10 minutes to get ready and get out of the house.

10 minutes later I'm sitting in my car trying to start it, but the damn thing wouldn't start. I tried not to freak out; I'm going to be late, but more importantly, why won't my car start? Will Christen have to drive me to work? Will Shelley pick me up to hang out so I'm not stranded? Finally, I go into the house and hand Christen the keys. "You start my car. I can't get it to start." he says okay, and out we go to the garage. Once we get there, he looks down at the keys in his hand. "These are my keys. Of course you aren't going to start your car!"

Fudge it. I need to go back to bed and start over.

    ****

However, I'm here and, well I'm queer in the straight sense. Happy new year! My new year's resolutions are: to start taking the stairs at work, and to start working like mad to finish the wedding stuff so I'm not freaking out 2 weeks before it happens. However, the stairs have been put off until we move floors (I'll die going up 6 flights) except when I go up and down to the 4th and up to the 7th, because those will be good for me. I started working on the wedding stuff, pricing transportation from the church to the reception, bought a couple more things for the attendant's gifts, and made a list of what I still need to do so I don't forget anything. Hopefully the girls will keep me on track (by "the girls" I mean Shell and Shea, not "the girls" as in my rack ... although that would be interesting ...)

I hope your New Year's was great! Mine was pretty good; low-key and all that. The usual suspects and I went out for dinner and drinks until they kicked us out at 11pm, then went to K&S's to watch the ball drop. I fell asleep before it fell, was woken up for a New Year's kiss, and fell back asleep until they picked me up and drove me home. I'm no good at staying up that late. I had prepped myself; Friday night we went to Theresa's house for a party which was a lot of fun and I didn't get home until around 2am (so I slept in the car, I stayed awake while I was there!) and Saturday we spent the whole day out in Orlando shopping at the Outlet Mall, having a lovely peanut butter burger at Jungle Jim's (my fav-ourite), playing minigolf and perusing Downtown Disney and didn't get home until after 1am (okay okay, I slept in the car then too -- so sue me!) and Sunday I broke up a family fight and sat on the couch all day reveling in doing nothing. So I tried to get myself used to staying up late, but I ended up crashing. I don't think the bottle of wine had anything to do with it! I swear!

Last night we went to DSW for new shoes for Christen and I ended up getting 3 pair (Christen got 2). I got some black wedge peekaboo toe shoes, black strappy wedges, and my favorite: silver strappy wedges (the proper term for the color is "diamond glitter"). They rock -- so cool! The girls at work are not impressed by my description of them (I was told to "get out of my cube" by Juliette) So I'll have to wear them to show them how wrong they are. :) Plus I still have $30 of credit so I can use my $10 coupon when it's good in 2 weeks. Hurrah!

Anyhow, back to the gridstone. Yay for me! (Can you tell I'm trying to be extra pumped about the new year?)
