I hate when things get so busy around here that I feel the need to chronicle everything. I don't know why, because I have no problem reading other peoples' chronicling, but I feel like such a lazy boring blogger when I chronicle my lives. Who wants to read that crap? I get bored writing it!
So here's the poop in bullets:
-- I'm ridiculously proud of myself for my 22 mile bike ride on Saturday. The furthest I've ridden in my adult life is about 14 miles when Spencer was about a year and we used to go on family rides. Still waiting for Henry to hit the magic one-year mark so we can start family rides again (the time passes when I don't want it to, and doesn't for the reasons I do want it to). I used to ride all over when I was young, but somehow you lose that drive when you get older. I didn't make it home (25 miles would have been home) but when I was dying, lying beneath that tree roadside while people looked strangely at me in the grass, I was glad to have gotten as far as I did. AND I was glad my FIL was at my house with his truck so Hubby was able to rescue me from said roadside.
-- True story:
Spencer likes to close doors. Spencer likes to push the button on the handle. Spencer does not realize that this locks the door.
(Hubby tries to get into our room): Spencer, come open this door.
(Spencer comes to open the door and finds it locked) I can't, it's locked.
H Did you lock it?
S Umm, yes.
H What does that mean?
S That means I go to time out.
H Okay, you go to time out.
(Spencer walks to his room with his head down)
YES! We have him trained! Now to train him not to lock the @(#&! doors.
-- I, who rarely ever reads more than one book at one time, am in the middle of three (3!) books. One, brainless: Motor Mouth by Janet Evanovich. Two, pretentious: Medium Raw by Anthony Bourdain (holy JEEBUS is he a pretentious ass; somehow in the couple years since I last read/saw him, I forgot this). Three, Darn good: Born Round by Frank Bruni. I have 3 days to finish them all so I can put them on my woefully inadequate April reading list.
-- I've been toying with going to the doctor for a full physical because I haven't been feeling that good. I've had a nagging stomachache for over a week, and my 99 hours of Grey's Anatomy have taught me that maybe something is something and not just nothing (thank you fictional tv). However, I am also almost sure that it's low-level anxiety because it went away over the weekend.
-- If you are interested in where I am in Grey's, George is dead. I think they just went to his funeral.
-- If you aren't as far as I am in Grey's, I'm sorry for the spoiler.
-- If you want to follow along at home with my Book Club, our next book is Sarah's Key. I picked this all on my own, so it's my fault if it sucks. Has anyone read it?
-- The kids both went to bed with no whining (Spencer) or crying or hysterical fits (Henry). This might be a sign of the apocalypse, but I prefer to think that maybe my daycare lady needs to drag the kids to Chuck E Cheese every day, like she did today.

Ten on Tuesday
1. How many blogs do you read every day and what are they? (I’m talking the ones you NEVER miss)
According to Google Reader, I have 77 subscriptions. I read all of them when they post, but I get a little giddy when Chelsea, Molly, Stacie, MamaFuss, Maggie, Lauren, Suzie or Jennie post. Thankfully they all do it often. There are probably more, but it's early and I can't think too much.
2. How many “best friends” do you have? Do you have different “besties” for different areas of your life?
I don't really consider that I have really any best friends anymore. I have plenty of friends, and girlfriends, but I don't have any one person that I see often, or talk to on the phone. I wish I could remedy that, but at 30 years old it seems everyone already has a best friend and I lost mine a few years ago through a falling out that I can honestly say wasn't my fault. People tell me I'm better off but I really miss having someone that close. I do tell my manager all my secrets though.
3. What’s your daily make up routine? If I have time, washing my face in the shower, moisturizer, eye shadow, blush, mascara, a little coverup and then lipstick in the car. If no time, blush and then lipstick in the car. Today since I'm taking up my get-ready time with this, it will be moisturizer and then blush and lipstick in the car.
4. What is your ideal girl’s night?
wine, wine wine ... and good friends
5. Do you keep up with your nails/toenails or are they au natural?
My toenails are usually painted but I only get a pedicure once every 6 months or so, so they aren't particularly pretty (right now they are, it's only 2 weeks old). I like my fingernails natural.
6. What’s your best roommate story (assuming you had a roommate at some point in your life)?
I lived with The Brad. He was awesome and I miss him. We used to get in fart fights, and sit on the porch having philosophical discussions. Aww, Bradford.
7. What’s your “go to” outfit that you wear more than anything else?
jeans and heels. Lately I've been living in my tank tops, but if I want to feel pretty and comfortable I need jeans and heels.
8. Do you have a beauty secret?
I don't have one. Please share.
9. Did you read Seventeen magazine growing up? yes
10. How did you learn to put on makeup? When I was 13 my mom took me to Merle Norman for a makeover where they showed me how to put on makeup, and then my mom bought what they put on me. I used that makeup for about 4 years.

A Brand New Dawn
It's early; I'm up, and I'm already ready for work. I've already mentioned that that last week was the worst week in a really long time at work, and although I rarely mention work here I will say that I am going to positive-think myself through this week. It has to be better. It WILL be better.
I had a delightful weekend; I don't know about you. Saturday I decided to ride my bike to my mom's house. 12.4 miles. And then I rode home. I didn't make it home - I got 9.4 miles before hitting a complete brick wall and not being able to move anymore without wanting to throw up - but thankfully Hubby's dad was over with his truck so Hubby came and picked me up. So it appears I can ride my bike 22 miles, but not 25 miles, which would have gotten me all the way home. I thought I would be fine, and I may have if it wasn't so hot. Damn summer heat in April. But it was an awesome workout and I was suitably sore for the rest of the day.
Hubby's dad brought over people to start working on my deck so now We! Have! A! Frame! They were here all Saturday and it looks huge based on the new footprint. To say I'm excited is a serious understatement. We picked out a composite wood for the decking so now we're trying to find out how fast we can get the wood in so we can have our deck. Looks like I have a great deal of gardening left to do.
Easter was also delightful - we did the usual sunrise service at the zoo, followed by breakfast (at a new place, because last year I got horribly horribly sick so I've sworn off Village Inn forever, which I didn't like anyhow) and then a leisurely day at the in-laws which included lots of food, an Easter egg hunt, swimming and an egg-shaped cake. 'Twas good.
I hope your weekend was also delightful. And here's to this week - a turning point, right?

The Hodgepodge
1) This has been the worst week at work in a really long time. I was on the verge of tears yesterday, I've been on the verge of quitting several times (which I cannot do, obviously), I've been working 12 hour days several times this week and last ... it's been bad. I've been overwhelmed and busy and with neverending work ... I'm hoping to get through today so I can move on to next - it has to be better, right? It has to get better. I know it gets better but I'm not seeing the light at the end of the tunnel right now.
2) I brought home about 3 hours of work last night, and then stopped at the library and got seven brainless books ... and read one (Hero at Large - Janet Evanovich) and took out a second to start (Medium Raw - Anthony Bourdain) before getting into my many Words with Friends games and not starting Book #2. Or the work.
3) Every day there are about five moments, conversations, etc, with Spencer that I want to document and then I don't write it right down and something else happens and I forget exactly what was said. But here's one: yesterday morning I was in the shower sitting on the floor shaving. Spencer came into the bathroom and it was a lot earlier than he usually wakes up. He went directly into my closet and closed the door (did not say anything to me). A few minutes later he came back out, left the bathroom and closed the door. When I finished my shower, I opened the bathroom door and he was standing there waiting for me, and asked me to walk him back to bed.
4) Here's another thing which is so endearing to me: every single morning, Spencer waits until his brother wakes up and then he climbs into Henry's crib with him and plays for a half hour or so. Most times he brings his pillow and blanket (which make for a crowded crib) and lays down to "cuddle" with Henry. I always check to make sure that every one is safe, but he really takes such good care of his little brother.
5) Henry is cutting an eye tooth. Never mind that he has NO OTHER TEETH so this is not really the proper order of things, but his gums are misshapen there into a weird little point. My child might have a fang here soon. This might be why he cries and laughs so much at the same time.
6) Today is Good Friday. I wish I took today off simply for my mental health, but I also hope that every single person I would otherwise hope to call takes it off so I can work in peace. Peace for Good Friday. Peace for Earth Day. Peace, please.
7) I had book club on Wednesday night and it was SO. Much. Fun! It was a little weird that all but one member are people that I either work with or used to work with, but we got through the night without it being a giant complaint-suck about things right now. As a matter of fact, I'm the only one who mentioned work at all because I had gone straight from one to the other. Now I need to figure out what we are going to read for next month. Pronto.

A conversation
(Spencer had his Easter party at daycare today, and I got home right before bed so we were talking about dinner and a piece of candy tomorrow)
Spencer: So tomorrow I can have one piece of candy.
Me: After dinner. Do you want to make pizza for dinner tomorrow?
S: Yes. And I will make pizza. Me. And I will put yummy things on the pizza.
Me: What kind of things do you want on your pizza?
S: I will have one piece after pizza. One. (candy)
Me: Okay, but what do you want on your pizza?
S: Yummy things. I will have tomatoes on my pizza.
Me: And cheese?
S: And cheese, yes.
Me: And sausage?
S: uh huh (nods. you really need to imagine a bobblehead while this whole conversation is going on)
Me: How about mushrooms, like Caillou puts on his pizza? Yummy mushrooms?
S: (silence. Spencer hates mushrooms) No ... yummy things. I don't think mushrooms.
It was worth a try. Sausage, cheese and tomatoes it is. and One Piece of candy after pizza.
Seriously, bobblehead. I love this kid.

Ten on Tuesday - Books, books books!
1. When someone asks you for a book recommendation, what is your go-to book?
It really depends on what kind of books the person likes. Food Porn? Garlic and Sapphires by Ruth Reichl. Non-fiction? Notes from a Small Island by Bill Bryson or The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot or Partly Cloudy Patriot by Sarah Vowell. Classic literature? McTeague by Frank Norris or Tender is the Night by F Scott Fitzgerald. Modern novels? Girl with the Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson, We Need to Talk about Kevin by Lionel Shriver, Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen. Young adult? Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins, Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater ... I probably have tons more recommendations if you really want them.
2. Do you buy your books, or are you a library patron? I hate to spend too much money on books, so I download a lot of free and cheap ones. Before I got my Nook I had a lot of books from the library, but now I frequent the overdrive website (ebook library) and download almost every free or discounted book spotlighted by Nook.
3. E-readers, yay or nay? Up until Christmas I would have said no way, but my MIL gave me a Nook (she wanted to get me an eReader and I researched the major brands to decide which I wanted) and I LOVE it. So yay e-readers!
4. What was your favorite book as a child? Harold and the Purple Crayon as a toddler. A Wrinkle in Time and The Face on the Milk Carton when I was a little older. I can't remember a whole lot of books from my childhood, but I devoured them more than I do now.
5. If you could be any character in a book, who would you be? Meg Murray from A Wrinkle in Time. I identified a lot with her when I was young.
6. What book would you love to see turned into a movie? I honestly never think of books in terms of what would make a good movie. When I find out that a book I've read is being turned into a movie I wonder how it will be, but I never read a book and wonder how it would look as a movie. However, when I found out that they were making Evanovich's Stephanie Plum series into a movie the first thing I thought (after the fact that Heigl didn't make a good Plum) is that I think it would be a much better tv series.
7. What is your all-time favorite book? McTeague by Frank Norris. Or anything by Fitzgerald. Or almost anything by Nick Hornby (Not Long Way Down. Juliet, Naked would have been fantastic without the last chapter or two).
8. How many books do you read at once? Usually only one, occasionally two.
9. What is your favorite book genre? Memoir or supernatural, these days.
10. Which Harry Potter book is the best? Or haven’t you read them at all? I don't have a favorite. I enjoyed the series although I read them really late - just around December/January. I finally decided that maybe I should check them out, given my propensity to read YA lately.

Leftover hoarding
Brought in to work today: 3 yogurts, a chicken flauta, a chicken enchilada, the last of the sour cream, some turkey tettrazini and three pieces of banana carrot bread. Obviously for more than one breakfast and lunch. Obviously.
Since my hubby is now spending more time at home, I don't always get first dibs on leftovers to take with me. This week I have taken it upon myself to take care of that.
Go me!
Don't mind me; I'm delirious from craziness since my system at work has been slow all day and I haven't been able to do the 8,172 things I had planned.

De-grass-i High
I hate gardening. I think I might be the only blogger ever, according to all the blogs I read, who hates gardening. But I do - it's hot, and sweaty, and two weeks after all your work the weeds come back and your flowers die and bugs eat your parsley.
But since over there <---- in my resolutions I noted that I wanted "to replant my front flowerbeds and keep them properly weeded and tidy (and alive)" and "get the deck done and the backyard spruced up appropriately", I decided that today was the perfect day to start cleaning the grass from my back flower bed across my fence. There was so much grass in with the jasmine that you couldn't really tell how much jasmine was there. Four hours later most of the grass is taken out, some of the trees from the other side of the fence have been pruned back so that they don't overhang (also our property, it's an easement), and some of the invading vines have been pulled off the fence.
You know what? It really wasn't that terrible. I don't know if it's because I'm in better shape or because it's still relatively early in the hot season, but I wasn't dying at all while I was out there. As a matter of fact, I even came in, made chicken flautas for lunch, ate lunch and then went back outside with no moaning and groaning. My hands hurt a little, but otherwise I'm feeling great, and I'm so happy to have relatively one relatively clean flower bed!
I'm also thankful to have some plants that grow all on their own:
My jasmine. Two years ago I cut it all down because it was so thick it was pulling down the fence, and now it's back! I haven't so much as watered it.
My rose bush. It came with the house, and is always teeming with roses. I cut it back once a year (I was told to do it on Valentine's day) and it's the most fertile rose bush I've ever seen in my life. Fertilizer? What's that?
Oh, and also - this post was going to be called "Why I hate the grass-roots movement". I thought it up while I was yanking out grass roots. Damn grass roots.
*edit: evidently I just had to sleep on it because now I'm SORE! But not uncomfortable, can't get out of bed sore. More of a "Hey, I have muscles there?" sort of sore. And my hands are killing me.

Happy Anniversary!

Happy anniversary to my wonderful husband. It's been nine years together, four years of marriage, three years of children, twenty months of pregnancy, seven residences and lots and lots of love (and a few fights, but that's to be expected). I'm always looking for a best girlfriend that I can tell all my secrets to but you are my best friend.

And we sure make cute kids, don't we?

Well fed
As I sautéed veggies (onions, poblano chiles, asparagus and mushrooms) to add to a box of 2% Velveeta mac and cheese Monday night for dinner, it occurred to me that I need to start menu planning again. I did so well for months and months, and then this year I’m pretty sure I haven’t done it at all – more than 3 months. I don’t know about planning for a whole month like Jennie, but certainly back to weekly or even biweekly. Hubby is trying to start cooking instead since he feels a little useless on the job front. Does anyone have any suggestions for somewhat healthy recipes he can make?
Also regarding food, I’m struggling with the toddler-eating situation. Here’s how it goes: I’ve never been a food pusher. Spencer spent two years of not really eating dinner, and I never cared. He eats ridiculous amounts of food for breakfast (he could out-eat me and my husband combined) but as the day goes on he eats less and less. We are not a dessert household, so there’s no “treat” hanging over his head if he doesn’t eat.
All that being said, lately he’s been telling me he’s hungry, so I make him a (very small plate) and about 30 seconds after I put it in front of him he starts to get up and says he’s not hungry. At this point we usually make him eat half of his dinner but I feel so conflicted about forcing him to eat! And then Hubby’s favorite threat is to tell S if he doesn’t eat it, daddy is going to eat it which completely gets my goat. Every night, same thing.
So Help! On both fronts, help please.

TOT - random pieces
1. If you work, do you drive to work or take public transportation?
I drive. I wish I lived in a city that had decent public transportation or a state that promoted public transportation, but alas the city buses are stinky and scary and the state government rejects federal grants for public transportation in the name of tax cuts. For awhile I carpooled but I no longer live near anyone else working the same early shift as I do, so I dirty up the environment all on my own.
2. How often do you get your haircut? Do you go to the same person every time?
I only get my hair cut every 6 months or so, when the style has completely grown out and hideous. I used to go to the same girl all the time, but she defriended me on FB (I don't think it was malicious, but still) so I shopped for a new person and I think my last stylist was a winner. I'm keeping her.
3. Do you read the newspaper? If so, a hard copy or the online version?
We recently subscribed to the paper copy for coupon reasons, but I read online and also pick up the TBT, which is our local free paper, when I get a chance.
4. What is the best book you have read this year?
Hmmm ... Last Sacrifice by Richelle Mead is the last book in the Vampire Academy series and I salivate over those books. One Day by David Niccolls was excellent. So was Listen by Rene Guttridge. The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot was the only nonfiction book I read, but it was wonderful. Keeping a list this year of all the books I've read really helps me remember the really good books.
5. What is the best movie you have seen this year?
I haven't seen that many (still more than many years) but The Fighter was fabulous and I hate boxing. Check back with me when I'm finally able to see The King's Speech.
6. Do you tend to crave sweet or salty foods?
Hmmm. I crave food, period. I crave salty foods mostly, but a well-placed small bit of sweet can satisfy me to stop snacking.
7. Do you eat breakfast every day? If so, what do you have?
yes. I need proteins to keep me going, so I usually eat eggs or peanut butter and honey on toast. And coffee - lots of lots of coffee.
8. If you celebrate Easter, what Easter treat/candy are you most looking forward to?
I'm not looking forward to candy in the house again ... the last candy in my house was Christmas and I gorged myself on them. I do love jelly beans.
9. How late is “sleeping in” to you?
Once upon a time was it was 9am or so (I've never been huge at sleeping) but now anything past 7am is gravy.
10. Where are you going on your next vacation?
In August I get to go to Delaware to visit a friend for a long weekend for her wedding shower ... so excited!! (except that she has eight thousand cats and I'm allergic ... I'm a little worried about staying in the house with twelve cats for four days, but I'm going to stockpile allergy medicines and hope for the best)

Status - post vacation
I go back to work in T minus 9 hours. I should be attempting to sleep but I thought to ease my way off of my Grey's Anatomy addiction, I would post a quick update before bed. Otherwise I might accidentally hit "next episode" on Netflix and then another 42 minutes would go down the drain. I'm now nearly halfway through the fifth season. That means that I watched approximately 50 hours of Grey's Anatomy during my vacation. I also read one book (not my book club book, still need to get on that), had two dates with the Hubby and WE STARTED THE DECK!
Well, actually, Hubs started the deck. I babysat. And really, he didn't start the deck as much as took down the old crappy enclosure for the back porch, but STILL! I'm so excited.
In other news, there is yet more proof that 2011 is the year to forget, as today we found out that yet another close family member has yet another type of cancer. And this is a scary kind (hell, they're all scary). I really don't know what to think, what to worry about. I can't worry about it right now but that also means that is all I can do is worry.
In more less important news, I've fallen off the wagon a little this week in my vigilance for healthy living. Snacking more, carbing more (I never cut carbs, but I was being better with carb portion control. Was being the operative word). I only ran twice, and the second time I allowed myself to get picked up at 2.3 miles because my ankle was hurting. That was Tuesday and I still don't have a new ankle brace. This stops tomorrow - I've worked too hard to slide too much. That said, there's no way I'm stepping on the scale until I feel like I've gotten back on the horse.
More information: Spencer got his fake tooth on Friday, I never conquered my insomnia (no kidding), family photos went well on Saturday and It's all I can do not to log back on to Netflix right this very minute.
Okay, now I try to sleep. Ha. Happy vacation to all, and to all a good night!

Have a (laughing) cow
I blame it on FoodLush, but I'm now addicted to Laughing Cow cheese wedges. It started as a wedge in the middle of my turkey burger. Which, by the way, is delicious.
But then (take note, Molly) I had half a round of Laughing Cow and didn't know what else to do with it. So I took my favorite breakfast - a fried egg on cheese toast, and replaced the butter and cheese with one wedge of laughing cow. And came up with this:
And now it's all I crave. I dare you to try it.

Friday hodgepodge
I'm blogging this from a chair at a nail salon where I am getting my first pedicure since the disastrous pedicure back in September. I know I'm taking a risk, but god, they need to be done so badly. Taupe. We'll see.
I hate the step where they pumice stone the bottom of your feet because I'm so uncomfortably ticklish. And they don't care if you squirm.
I'm also doing some shopping because we are getting family photos done tomorrow and I have NO IDEA what to where. I realize I should have asked opinions earlier than the day before, but if you have an opinion I'd be eternally grateful. The boys are wearing brown and white and my husband is wearing brown. I'm thinking if a cream top and my red flats but honestly I can't decide.
The lady next to me has a size 12 foot. Mine don't feel so big now.
All I've really done on my vacation is watch Grey's Anatomy. I started season 4 this morning. The season finale of season 3 might have been the worst finale I've ever seen. Ever. That said, I'm really enjoying it, and I blame my watching on Mama Fuss. And my friend Evan.
When I tried to type Mama Fuss, autocorrect changed it to bambaataa. I really worry sometimes about this phone. It has a mind of its own.
Also on my vacation, I took my mom to visit family (drive 2 1/2 hours each way, 3 hours there), picked her up from chemo, went to two baseball games, worked on tent decorations for Relay For Life, and today I worked for 3 hours. And I read one book. But really, I want to get home and watch more Grey's.
There's a woman here getting a manicure who has her two year old girl in an umbrella stroller next to her whining while she has her nails done. I think moms are entitled to get their nails fine, obviously, but couldn't someone take care of that kid for you?
Nails done. Blog done. Happy weekend!

Sleep ... I need to find a way to get more of it.
It's after 2am, and I'm awake. Not only am I awake, I've been awake this whole evening and I'm not even that tired. Tomorrow's going to be such a bitch, but more so is going to be next Monday when I'm expected to go back to work and I haven't figured how to get this insomnia thing under control.
When I complain about my lack of sleep, I feel like such a baby because generally (except for tonight), I'm falling asleep around midnight or 12:30, and I get a solid 6 hours of sleep a night. When I say it that way, what the heck am I complaining about? But I NEED MORE. I really need to be falling asleep at 10pm and getting a full 7.5 to 8, and then getting up an hour earlier than I do so that I can actually get to work on time instead of scraping in right before my boss does so I can feign being to work on time. This right here - it's not working.
Plus, it would really help if I could hit the gym or go for a run before work instead of my lunchtime. I miss reading on my lunch. I'm on my third season of Grey's Anatomy but I haven't even read more than two pages of my book club book (or any other for that matter). I read 16 books in March, and I haven't even read the first chapter of one this month!
I'm enjoying my vacation, generally. Monday was purely exhausting. I drove my mom and both children two hours south to spend time with all her relatives for the afternoon and then drove her back. I love my relatives, but I don't really feel that I have much in common with them. They're all very nice, albeit loud and opinionated, but the moment I hit the other side of the bridge my blood pressure rises. What is it about certain cities that just drive you nuts?
Tuesday I spent most of the day watching Netflix and enjoying the rainy weather. I wanted to run but I woke up after the clouds broke so I was SOL ... and didn't get dressed until the afternoon. Ran errands, had lunch at Tijuana Flats (yum, chicken flautas ... how does anyone ever order anything else there?)
Wednesday we have plans to have brunch and go to an afternoon baseball game ... second date in one month! And it's not even a third of the way through! How's that for good news? Hopefully maybe I'll wear myself out and sleep will find me. I miss sleep. He's being a far too elusive friend.

TOT - Dates
1. What is your ideal best date?
Anything that includes a good meal and good conversation with my husband. Any date is a good date when you have two kids.
2. How long does it take you to get ready to go on a date?
It depends on if I've already taken a shower and dried my hair. I'd say average would be an hour, but often a lot less.
3. What would you wear on the date?
It depends on the date. With two kids, I generally consider any outing that doesn't involve children, a date. Last year we had to get a babysitter so we could get our bedroom furniture from Ikea, and I consider that something of a date. It was a lot of fun. But in general, on a traditional movie/dinner date I'd wear jean, heels and a nice top. Maybe with some boobage. If it's a fancy restaurant, a gray pencil skirt with heels, a nice top and boobage.
4. If you are married, how often do you go on dates? If you are single, when was your last date?
Like I said, I'm a little liberal on what I consider a "date". An outing that takes more than an hour including driving and gets us out without children is a date for me. I have a resolution this year for eight dates including 6 movies in the theatre, but we are really headed for an average of one a month which is awesome. I really can't tell you how many dates we had last year - maybe two?
5. What was your worst date?
I went on a date with a guy I met online back before online dating was the norm. We met in a chat room and he liked the fact that I was studying German. We met at Steak n Shake. It turned out he was a neo-Nazi. True story.
Ooh, also there was the time I went to my date's junior prom in my mom's wedding dress.
6. Do you/Did you kiss on your first date?
I didn't really have a dating policy but I often kissed on the first date.
7. If married, how long before you knew he/she was the one? If single, how long before you know if the person is marriage material?
We had our first date December 10 (or 13, I'd need to pull a calendar to tell you for sure). He had pretty much moved in by January. I knew pretty quick.
8. Do you prefer day dates or night dates?
I don't really have a preference, but I think it depends on the time of year. Right now, day is great - it's SOOO beautiful out there (I say this as it's been storming for about 2 hours with no end in sight, but it's usually sunny and beautiful) but I have always felt that coming out of a movie when it was light outside was just weird.
9. How old were you when you first were allowed to date?
There wasn't a set time, but I started dating mostly when I had a car.
10. What is the most embarrassing moment you have had on a date?
I can't think of one off the top of my head although I have a personal embarrassment about how one of my long-term relationships started. I was dating this one guy, and he had a habit of disappearing from the radar for several days to a week at a time. I really liked him so I put up with it, but I was annoyed one time and was on the phone talking to a friend of mine whose birthday it was. He wanted to know if I wanted to meet up, so we hung out for a bit that night and ended up making out. When he dropped me off at my car he said, "So when are we going to tell them?" (meaning our mutual friends that we hung out with).
"Tell them what?"
"That we're together"
"Uhh ... maybe we should keep it a secret for a little bit" (ahem, I didn't realize that one night of kissing meant we were dating. Plus, I kind of had a boyfriend. I didn't actually comment on any of this.)
I still hadn't heard from other boyfriend by a couple days later so I officially admitted to the world that I was dating guy #2, and we were together (and engaged and living together) for three years. Two weeks after I was official with guy #2, I heard from guy #1 - it turned out he had been deathly sick and hadn't left his apartment for more than two weeks. Oops!

Just a few things
- my car smells like mildew because of all the rain last week. Actually, it smells like mildew specifically because of Monday, when I decided to do my grocery shopping in the monsoon. 20 seconds of having the door open means my car may have been flooded. Or at least, it smells that way.
- I'm driving my mother and two kids down to Bradenton to visit kin. Shoot me now.
- Let's hope the automobile Febreeze works the way it's suppose to.
- I bought more tank tops this weekend. I'm addicted. I can't buy pants because ideally I would like to drop another pants size, so I just keep buying shirts.
- I have one pair of work pants that still fit. It's exciting that all the other ones are too big, but really not convenient. I'm subsisting on a pair of khakis, a couple pairs of jeans and my skirts. I refuse to buy transition pants.
- I'm sick of using the "we have a toddler" excuse all the time in my house. We have a toddler. Things aren't going to be perfect. You may have to deal with the toilet paper sitting on the windowsill instead of on the roll so that he doesn't play waterfall after he poops and try to flush the entire roll.
- I got my hair cut last weekend and I LOVE IT. Love it. Maybe there will be photos.
Okay, here's a photo:

Bah on my lack of ability to take decent pictures of myself (and please ignore the paint spot on my bedroom ceiling), but you get the point.

Baking fool - with a recipe!
Saturday morning I decided to do some baking. I have a toddler who still refuses to eat vegetables and an infant who has decided he likes to eat absolutely everything, so I figured that since I just professed to not being much of a baker I should make some more butternut squash waffles (with spinach), and make up some recipes for carrot banana bread and zucchini spinach muffins. You know, just off the cuff.
I was baking for four hours. I might be delirious.
But I have for you my recipe for Carrot Banana Bread. It's a combination of carrot cake ingredients and banana bread ingredients. I winged it (wang it?) and I think I'm in love with this bread.
Carrot Banana Cake Bread
2 1/2 bananas
3/4 cup carrots, shredded
1/2 cup crushed pineapple
1/3 cup Greek yogurt
2 eggs
3/4 cup sugar
2 cups flour
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp baking soda
preheat the oven to 325 degrees. grease your loaf pan, and then dust with flour (or just use Baker's Pam). blend first 6 ingredients together. sift the last four ingredients together and blend into the wet. Pour into pan and bake for 50 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Let set for 10 minutes to cool before inhaling eight pieces at a time.
*Note: my second one I only had two bananas so I upped the pineapple and then I added about a cup of crushed walnuts.

Well there's hodge, and then there's podge
1) BASEBALL! Opening Day! Hoo-yah!

2) Will someone please please please send me a copy of Adele's album? She's amazing. And I haven't bought a CD in five gazillion years.
3) Spencer freaked out last night and ran out of my room into the kitchen screaming when a clap of thunder went off. His underwear was around his ankles. When asked why, he said he pulled them down because he was scared of the thunder. I'm still at a loss.
4) I'm still annoyed that I couldn't find my measuring spoons last night. Why is it that I keep things in the same spot every single time, and yet things are never where I keep them when I look for them? I'm so irritated about it. And I need my damn spoons. Yes, I'm blaming someone without actually accusing them. I can be passive aggressive when I want to be.
5) I hate April Fools. I am April. I am not a fool.
6) And no, my birthday's not in April.
7) Vacation!!!!
